Nokia 5800XM Firmware v40.0.005 finally available !

We talked about something like that already ! Here is it finally ! At that moment, the update is available via NSU and should be available soon trough OTA !


Update includes:

- Additional Kinetic Scrolling
- Changed UI in the homescreen similar to the 5530XM
- Updated Nokia Messaging
- OVI Contacts pre-installed
- New screen alarm when locked

Nokia 5800 XM : Firmware 4.1 won't include widget but kinetic scrolling !?

Just to say that Eldar Murtazin via his Twitter channel, has announced he tried the beta of the new update 4.1 for Nokia 5800.  and that the FW 4.1 (1) comes with widgets and kinetic scrolling but the latest 4.1 (5) build comes without !  (Also that the new firmware for N97, the 2.1 version expected by the end of 2009, was postponed because it contained too many bugs, and is now nearing completion), in other words, you should expect something like on X6 or 5530, but not as a N97...well, ok...

Wait and see !

[PART 2] N900 Audio Test Vs 5800XM, Omnia HD and N95 8GB

Hi everybody, today i decided to grab a N95 8GB to test its speakers quality versus the N900's ones as requested by many readers after the Part 1 Audio test series.

This time, the actual devices speakers orientation isn't the same, the devices are oriented in a position when they should be used in a day to day use (as advertised !) to output the sound, all settings are the same, no sound effects, no equalizer, volume is set at the max, check it out :

In this brief post i'll quickly cover the speaker test on music and video playback with the Nokia 5800 Xpress Music (known by his hi quality speakers with bass rendering) and the Samsung Omnia HD (known by his Cristal sound effect), let's check out the demo :



Yep, the 5800 pins down many many mobile phone out there, so the N900 sounds really fade and weak, i'm still talking about speakers right here...

How about the quality on the headphones? ;)

Upcoming 5800 firmware release v.40.0.001 !?

I'm tired ! I'm done! When will Nokia finally decide to release the long awaited update for the 5800?

German site biskero.org has reportedly sited a Nokia 5800 running V40 firmware on their site logs.

and we have reason to believe that v40 is definitely in the works, because bugs in the QT developmental programming framework beta for s60, version 4.6, the bugs have been reported from a device running v40.0.001 RnD version.

Get most of your Symbian device [Part 14] : Orange Home screen For The 5800 !

While waiting for Nokia to give us a decent homescreen for the 5800, a usable one, here is Orange Home screen For 5800 !

1.Make a backup copy of your c:\sys\install\sisregistry\1028315f folder.
2.Just copy resource and sys folder from the attachment to your C drive
3.Restart, now go to Home screen settings you will get that Orange Home Screen...that's all

Official 5800 firmware release has been confirmed (31.1.xxx) !?

It seems that the upcoming (Major?) 5800's firmware is on his way, as confirmed by some internal Nokia employee...here's the quote :

The new official 5800 release has been confirmed today. It is PR3.11 (31.1.xxx), and will be delivered in phases starting with Nokia language variants followed by country variants (such as UK) and operator/customer variants.

As this is a UK specific thread I might say that UK country variants are top on the list for both of these products. Hope you guys will enjoy the latest improvements as soon as they are ready for download via NSU or FOTA.

Let's hope it'll be the long awaited major firmware update...

Did You Know That The 5800's CPU Clock Rate Has Jumped From 369 MHz to 434 MHz?!

I was wondering why and how come my 5800 has become pretty responsive and somehow fast in general and specific tasks after i updated it to v20.0.12 some times ago (now i'm on v31.0.008 of course)...

Well, while i was surfing through nokia forum today, i came across to this detail that the CPU clock rate was upgraded from device sw version 20.0.012 onwards !

Guess what, you have already an overclocked 5800 with the same clock rate as the other Nokia's symbian touchscreen devices (N97, X6, 5530, 5230 and N97 mini) ! :p

Nokia 5800 XpressMusic Gets a Minor Firmware Update : v31.0.008

A new update v31.0.008 is available via NSU and OTA, and don't get excited, it's not a major update (So, no home Widgets, no Kinetic scrolling...), and it's not available for all product codes...



Brief Changelog

- Updated Nokia Maps to Ovi Maps 3.1

- Updated Ovi Store client to v1.05(231)

- 'Performance improvements' (more RAM, optimisations)

Nokia 5800 "i" XpressMusic?

On the site the American Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has information on an updated version of the mobile phone Nokia 5800 XpressMusic, which is added to the index letter "i", while the inner code has changed to RM-602.



However, these documents do not indicate how the original model was subjected to updates and what are the specific "injection" is changed from it. The only thing you can say about the changes to have photographs, it is the presence of other optics, from which you can make the assumption of a new image sensor, the resolution of which has not changed ...

Is this what we saw already on mobile-review's review of the Nokia 5530 !?

Update : As Apple’s effort to launch the iPhone in China continues, The 5800i rocks WCDMA 900/2100MHz alongside quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE, which lines up nicely with China Unicom, though the 5800i does in fact have Wi-Fi as opposed to the China-bound iPhone. It would be interesting however, if this turned out to be the capacitive screen-rocking 5800 refresh that rattled around the rumor mill a few months ago. (via BGR)
