Decoders Support for N900
Hi, if you have extras-testing enabled (do not do this if you are not an experienced Maemo user), you might have noticed new Tomaszd package, which replaces the ac3-support package.
Decoders Support 0.1
It installs GStreamer decoders and registers some new formats, so that they become supported in the Media Player.
AC-3 audio support in video files
This doesn't need explanation and was probably the most anticipated format to get support. Works fine, tested.
MKV support
Yes, it works. This is basic support, which means no options for changing audio streams or subtitles, nothing. Just playback.
Remember that MKV is just a container format, so it has to contain video and audio encoded in a format supported by the N900 (h.264 baseline, DivX/XviD video, MP3, AAC, AC-3 audio). It also does not magically add support for HD resolutions. Works fine, tested with a .mkv sample with XviD video and MP3 audio.
Playback from the file manager still results in asking which application to use, I will try fixing this some time later. Playback from the Media Player is not an issue (.mkv files get indexed as any other video files).
FLV support
Not tested, but should work.
MPEG2 Transport Stream support
Not tested, might work. Need feedback.
Plans:
--> RM and RMVB demuxing
