E7 Q&A Session !
Today was full of Q&A sessions about the new Nokia E7, and i had the great opportunity to participate as a panelist in one of the E7 Q&A with Product Managers : Juha Rämälä and Jukka Härö, thanks to WOMWorld Nokia, so here are the highlights and most relevant/important questions made during the session.
Q : In orange
R : In blue
About the screen resolution :
Arun8gb:
Hey Juha :)
E7 is very impressive, But disappointing spec is screen resolution (screen size is great) ..
slipkornsaad:
Why didn't you choose a wvga resolution for that great 4inch display, it will so good for viewing and editing office documents for example
Juha Rämälä / Nokia:
resolution is not always everything, display speaks for itself when you see it use and especially in outside (in sunlight)
Juha Rämälä / Nokia:
Screen size: About the resolution - all Symbian^3 devices share the same reso and ratio -> this means easier job for developers to work on their apps. the same application works on any Symbian^3 device
About the non removable battery :
Alvin |twitter.com/alv1nW:
What influenced the decision to make the E7's battery non-removable? Although it does allow the device to be slimmer and perhaps more solid, it rules out the option of swapping in a spare, not so good for taking on the road away from a power source
Juha Rämälä / Nokia:
@Alvin: non removable battery means that you can create very solid construction, no squeeking, excellent quality
About the frequency band of WLAN n
Fakhre (SymbianTweet):
What is the frequency band of 'WLAN N ' in Nokia E7
Jukka Härö / Nokia:
@Fakhre: WLAN IEEE802.11 b/n and I think it is 2.4 GHz
DhruvBhutani:
Why keep the battery as just 1200mah considering this has a bigger screen. It is a business device which is expected to be constantly connected.
OS level battery management can only go that far...
Jukka Härö / Nokia:
@DhruvBhutani: that was the biggest battery that we could fit into this concept. At the same time we have optimised the power consumption of the display software to maximise the usage times
About the Web TV support
Arun8gb:
Does E7 support Web TV ?
Jukka Härö / Nokia:
@Araun8gp: Yes there will be global and local Web TV clients preinstalled in E7
About the USB OTG :
Fakhre (SymbianTweet):
Can we connect Nokia E7 with Nokia N8 via USB and browser each other. In case if we want to transfer large files between the
devices.
Juha Rämälä / Nokia:
@Fakhre: we don't recommend connecting devices in such a way. We don't take any responsibility if the devices get broken if one tries such a thing.
About the choice of EDoF over Auto Focus Camera :
Nitish Kumar:
I understand the part of non removable battery, understand the exclusion of MicroSD, but at this price, if you dont get a camera that could scan a business card then what purpose it serves for business? Could have saved something from high price tag by keeping that just 3mp then.. huh
slipkornsaad:
Why there's no autofocus and edof instead? Not so good for scanning documents or business cards...?
Jukka Härö / Nokia:
@slipkornsaad: slimmness of the device and the table usabity (no bump in the back cover) were also valued in the product design. In general we feel that the camera quality is quite good for business users.
About mkv support :
slipkornsaad:
can it read mkv and xvids files out of the box?
Jukka Härö / Nokia:
@slipkornsaad: I think mkv is supported
About video focus :
slipkornsaad:
video capture has a fixed or initial focus?
Jukka Härö / Nokia:
@slipkornsaad: video recording is with fixed focus. HD quality with 25 frames per second
About the sliding mechanism
Fakhre (SymbianTweet):
Dose E7 uses the same sliding mechanism as on Nokia N97 mini
@Fakhre: the sliding mechanism is designed especially for E7. bigger screen and bigger QWERTY require different spec.
About the dedicated ram
slipkornsaad:
what's the amount of dedicated ram?
Juha Rämälä / Nokia:
@slipkornsaad: 256
Fakhre (SymbianTweet):
Dose Nokia E7 has carls zeiss lens ?
Jukka Härö / Nokia:
@Fakhre: E7 does not have Carl Zeiss
About the web browser
slipkornsaad:
Any improved web browser or the same wi'll get for the N8
Juha Rämälä / Nokia:
@slipkornsaad: E7 has the same browser as in N8
Ps : I've participated with the N900, and it really rocks with the easy full support of the heavy www.coveritlive.com website with its full html bible and the advanced copy/paste management :)
