Updated Symbian Design Guidelines : Preview Of Symbian Belle Update !?

Posted on 20:13 by SlipKoRnSaad

Symbian releases after Anna will introduce a number of changes in the design and user experience. Qt Quick components 1.0 for Symbian is the first implementation that follows the new Symbian design guidelines. By using Qt Quick components 1.0 for Symbian, applications will not only have a fresh new look, but will also comply with the evolving Symbian style.

What is new in the guidelines?

These Symbian Design Guidelines should be seen as a style evolution, not a revolution. Most new applications for Symbian are developed with Qt; here we will cover only Qt Quick components 1.0. Although most Symbian components have a counterpart in Qt Quick, not all of them have been adapted. Anything that is missing will have to be created anew. If you cannot find what you’re looking for directly, you are encouraged to browse through the new Qt Quick components and look for an alternative.
Examples of most the changes most visible to the user include:

Figure 1. Smaller status bar. The current Title pane  (Symbian^3) on the left and new status bar (Qt Quick components) on the right.
Figure 2. New tab bar. The current tab bar in Navi pane (Symbian^3) on the left and new tab bar (Qt Quick components) on the right
Figure 3. New tool bar. The current Control pane and Toolbar (Symbian^3) on the left and new Toolbar (Qt Quick components) on the right.
For more detailed information, see the summary of the changes.
