Space Impact: Meteor Shield : First Nokia game to use digital compass sensor !

The N97 mini and N97 are the first handsets to play host to a new game that utilizes the talents of the digital compass sensor ( or ‘magnetometer’ as it’s otherwise known). Space Impact: Meteor Shield has just landed on planet Ovi Store, and you can downloaded it for free

If you want to find out more about how the magnetometer works, check out this brief article on the Forum Nokia community blog.

[Maemo 5 / N900 Apps] BlueMaemo : playing games with the accelerometer

You surely heard lately about a BlueMaemo as PS3 game controller? Well it's a remote controller application for Maemo-powered devices in the end taht turns your Maemo-powered device in a mixed Bluetooth keyboard-and-mouse device through the HID Bluetooth profile.

Some new features were added in BlueMaemo for Maemo5, one of these feature is the ability to send events using the accelerometer motion, it's still in a very early stage, but as you can see in the video below, you can already play simple games.

The accelerometer control is enabled via the button “one” and “two”(experimental air mouse) in the gamepad profile...

If you want to test the alpha version of BlueMaemo, you can grab it in the Extras-devel repository, please remember that the software in that repository is not intended for end users.

N900 : Kids Want One Too !

Here's a brief demo of my little old cousin playing games and drawing on the N900 !

It certainly looks capable of going toe-to-toe with iPhone 3GS when it comes to rich 3D games but the N900 has another advantage over Apple's device: full Flash support in its Web browser, so you can login to Facebook and play Who Has The Biggest Brain? So, Browser games could be a really exciting area for this device !

However, i wished the N900 had multi-touch for racing and football games. If it's about a patent from Apple i do wish nokia would have designed a directional pad with a button in the middle and two separate A and B buttons on the qwerty for gaming purposes.

Anyway, forthcoming Qt includes multi-touch and gestures which means that Nokia will bring them to their Symbian and Maemo phones.

Other coolest thing is the ability to get a good retro gaming use with a host of different emulators, so you can play MSX, NES, SNES, GBA (WTF?), Game Boy, ZX Spectrum and so on ;)

Stay Tuned !

Snes on N900 : Wiimote And Tv Out Supported !

Thanks to the great developers of nrnoksnes, we have now snes running on n900 fullscreen. Wiimote supported, as well as tv out.

While it's great that you can play games on the go and to be able to continue later from your couch with wiimote, you can also just bring your wiimote with you and use that to play games. It's just perfect.

First glimpse of hardware-accelerated Bounce for the Nokia N900 !

Nokia's own 3D platform game Bounce apparently has a new installment bundled with the upcoming Linux-based Nokia N900 smartphone. The graphics are a bit more realistic than on Boing Voyage, probably due to the N900's more powerful CPU and built-in graphics processor. Swedish phone site mobil.se has included a brief clip of the new Bounce in their N900 hands-on video, which you can watch below. Bounce appears at 4:00. (via Maemo Talk)
