[Did You Know?] You can now Hack your symbian without PC & certificates !

Finally had some free time to post about this, i guess it'll make symbian owners who can't generate certificates happy !

1. install NortonSymbianHack.sisx
2. Launch
3. Go Options- Anti-Virus - Quarantine list
4. Go Options - Restore, accept prompt ("yes")
5. Exit application, delete it from App manager (Symantec Symbian Hack). Also delete c:\shared\ folder.
6. Install RomPatcherPlus_3.1.sisx
7. Launch and apply patches:
- Open4all for full access to file system
- Installserver for installing any unsigned applications ( if you see a red cross on installserver in RomPatcher then get installserver.exe* and move it to C:/sys/bin via x-plore file manager for example)
- Set patches to auto if needed (Options - Add to auto)

* Select the file corresponding to your model (see the *.txt file on the attachment)

[How To] Fix the GPS slow-down on Anna update !?

Is your GPS very slow after the update to Symbian Anna?

This can be fixed by changing the settings in the Assisted GPS server. Do the following steps:

• Select Menu > Settings > Application Settings > Positioning > Positioning server > Server Settings.
• It shows: 1 supl.nokia.com.
• By tapping that, it shows: Server address* Supl.nokia.com and Only in home network Yes.
• Switch Only in home network to No.

This setting should be set to No, because otherwise if you are in a different network than your home network your phone will not use GPS assistance, which results in a long wait to get a GPS fix.

[How To] Fix Ovi Store Stucking On "Loading" Page

Hello friends,

I just want to share with you a solution that i find finally to resolve the issue that i have out of the box with a brand new Nokia X7 that i'm testing since some days, the issue is that i can't go to "Account" or actually view the details of an app. I just get a white screen with "Loading".

- A hard reset didn't help
- Installation of the latest Qt Packages didn't help
- Reinstallation of the firmware didn't help
- Installing CNN International app from Nokia Beta Labs didn't help

Until i came accross the latest Ovi Store update v2.12.042 that did the trick ;)

So all you have to do is to download Ovistoreinstaller_V2.12.042.sisx (Or even V2.12.043) and enjoy !

*********

Update :

Another detailed solutions to try :

SolutionA:

- Install the following QT files on the C: drive of your phone in exactly this sequence

* http://dl.nokia.com/ns/sdo/QtSA4.7.301.sisx
* http://dl.nokia.com/ns/sdo/QtWebkitSA4.8.0.sisx
* http://dl.nokia.com/ns/sdo/QtMobilitySA1.1.301.sis

- While you install above QT files you MUST keep the following things in mind:

*Installation must be done to C: drive of the phone. If you by mistake select E: drive, you can cancel the installation and re-install again. If E: drive installation is complete, you can re-install one more time and select C: drive for installation.

*Installation order must be met. First it has to be QT (QtSA4.7.301.sisx).

- Start Ovi Store

Solution B:

- Launch the File manager on your phone (Typically found: Menu -> Applications -> Office -> File mgr.)

- Choose Options -> Find -> E: Mass memory -> Root folder
- In the “Find text:” window, type “*.sisx” (without double quote) and the select find.
- It will display many sisx files starting with “TMP”. Example: TMP3efa4.sisx.
- Now select Options -> Mark multiple items and now mark all sisx starting with “TMP”.
- After marking them select Options -> Delete and delete all of them.
- Start Ovi Store

Update 2 :

Try to downgraded Ovi Notifications Support and let me know http://nds2.betalabs.nokia.com/reader/Ovi_Notifications_Support_Package_Symbian3_v1.1.11118.sis it worked for me after Anna update !

Update 3 : (after anna update)

- Do a soft reset (*#7370#)
- Then a Master reset
- Reinstall the firmware (via ovi suite)
- Install 1&2 anna update
- Install ovistore

[Did You Know?] TweakS can tweak your device on the go !?

Compatibility : All hacked smartphones based on Symbian 9.1 - 9.4 and S^3

TweakS - is an innovative application for symbian devices, allowing easy to change parameters which were inaccessible earlier to editing in system.

It is a cover for plugins in which the description of options for editing is stored. plugins for the application are accessible to loading directly from the program. Also you can download plugins from website. Just click on the .twk file from filemanager for it's installing.

Each plugin contains a group of settings, grouped by purpose. Don't forget to read the description to options inside Option - Description before their change! As the important information on some options is written at a forum about the program.

Pay attention that some options in system can be initially locked. When you open it, application automatically will unlock them, then will suggest to make phone reboot. The locked parameters become accessible to editing after reboot.

[Did You Know?] Just HackIt! v1.1 can Hack all Symbian, including S^3 in 4 steps !

It's about time for me to back into hacking stuff for symbian after a sometime hack following of Maemo5 :

The hacking tools presented by CODeRUS, Kolay and stas686 from symbian-coderus allow you to get a full access to the phone's system files, with that capability, we can install a root certificate, and with the root certificate, we can install anything we want to mod the phone, include the Manufacturer capabilities requested apps !

0. Download this zip archive !
1. Sign CertHack_Installer with your own devcert.
2. Install CertUpdater
3. Install signed CertHack_Installer
4. Launch HackIt! by icon from menu.

 While hacking application installs FileBrowser for S^3 and RomPatcher for other phones it does a copy of installserver for 9.4 and S^3 phones.

If you getting any error just reboot phone and launch HackIt! again.

After successfully hacking delete HackIt! application if you want ^^

Stay tuned for some hacks to come !

DayHand : Enable New Virtual Keyboards on Touchscreen Symbian Devices !

This keyboard is far superior to Nokia/Samsung ones. A single key can have up to 5 characters (you get extra chars by tapping and dragging). It has copy, cut, paste, home, end, symbols table, T9 dictionary in qwerty mode, enables type-ahead in qwerty, international chars keyboard (customized), lets you type faster and, as I said, is fully customizable, letting the community create more and more layouts (like iPhone and Opera ones). For each mode (landscape and portrait) there are 7 different keyboards (selectable from a button): english qwerty, international qwerty, abc keypad, numeric mode, edit mode, symbols table, dictionary selection.

WHAT IS DAYHAND INPUT?
=======================

A Chinese application developed to replace the original touch keyboard with one that supported Chinese characters.

I'M NOT CHINESE, WHY SHOULD I CARE?
========================================

While it was developed to cover Chinese language, it also SUPPORTS English and is fully customizable. So, we have changed it all to get rid of the Chinese characters and turned it into a full English/International keyboard.

WHAT ARE THE ADVANTAGES?
=========================

WHICH VERSION, WHICH LANGUAGE?
=============================
If your phone is hacked you should install the 19caps (19r3) version. If not, you can then sign and install the 17caps (17r3). The 17caps version has the same functionalities but due to permission restrictions the keyboard won't be used in some applications (known at the moment, Omnia's RoadSync+Pre-installed Office, Nokia Music Player).

In both packages you'll find English, International English, Finnish, Spanish and Portuguese languages to choose upon install. The only difference among them is that the regular qwerty keyboard have direct access to accented letters for those langs. But even the English keyboard has an special international keyboard with all accents.

HOW TO INSTALL?
=======================

If you have it already installed, you have to disable it on settings otherwise you might get a "can't delete file" error. Download the zip file (link below), unzip it and install it as usual.

If you want to save some internal memory space you can now also select only the desired layouts on the installer. The "Chinese Pack" is meant for phones not originally supporting double byte characters. Leave it CHECKED and if you get an error, try to install again unchecking it.

DayHand_Input_by_Mr._Milk_17r4_unsigned.sis.zip
DayHand_Input_by_Mr._Milk_19r4_unsigned.sis.zip

HOW TO USE IT?
==============

After installing, make sure you REBOOT your phone. No need to setup, after reboot the keyboard will be active. You can test it by writing a new sms.

HOW TO CHOOSE ANOTHER LAYOUT?
==============================

The installation process makes the Opera Mini (Portrait) and Opera Huge (Landscape) the default layouts. If you want to try the iPhone or the original one do this:

HOW DO I CREATE/CUSTOMIZE A LAYOUT?
=================================

Google for more info about DayHand Input. There are hundreds of posts out there with everything you need to know.

WHAT IF I DON'T LIKE IT?
=========================

You can easily disable it on the settings or completely uninstall it. To uninstall it, first you need to disable it.
To disable it, go the settings and on the first option of the first screen, tap and select "AknFEP".

ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS
================

A big round of applause (and reps) to ipitbull, caominh171, fenomeno83, genio_mex and all others who made all this possible.

Get most of your Symbian device [Part 13] : Free Up Some Space On C:

Here's a forgotten tip (at least by me) to gain 5 extra megabytes of phone memory ! This space is only used if you do an "over the air" firmware update.

Your device must be hacked and open4all patch applied, you need also a strong file manager...ready?

- Use Active File and navigate to C:\Private\102072c4

- Delete the file reserved.bin

- Optionally, you can make an empty text file called reserved.txt and drop it into C:\Private\102072c4 to prevent system recreating it after boot ;)

Ps : If you go to the device manager app, the reserved.bin file reappears, so it's safe to remove it, we wont need it as we (Omnia HD's user) never get any FOTA updates. you can delete it to.

How to Create Loopable Wallpapers for Nokia N900

Quick steps

  • Get equirectangular photos
  • Crop it to 3200 x 480
  • Slice it into 4 images of 800×480 images
  • Create a .desktop file to group the images
  • Transfer the 5 files to N900/images folder

Sample .paris.desktop text file

[Desktop Entry]
Type=Background Image
Name=360 Paris
Hidden=True
X-File1=/home/user/MyDocs/.images/360paris_01.jpg
X-File2=/home/user/MyDocs/.images/360paris_02.jpg

We Can Receive FM Radio On The N900 Now !

Controlling the FM radio in the N900 is tricky stuff. At first, the hardware is disabled for power saving reasons. Bluetooth has to be powered up, the I2C communication bus has to be powered up, and only then, the FM radio driver will actually load.

Martin have created a package n900-fmrx-enabler for this task. The FMRX-Enabler is a D-Bus service that takes care about enabling the FM radio hardware on request and powering it down again when no application are using it.

After the driver has been loaded by the FMRX-Enabler, the FM radio provides two interfaces for controlling. A classic Video4Linux2 interface featuring only the basic stuff such as setting the frequency and muting/unmuting it, and a sysfs interface where you can read and write into file-like objects to control the radio.

Another tricky part is getting to hear sound from the radio. Unlike the N800, the FM radio doesn't output to the speakers directly. You have to capture the sound from the PGA line and play it back. A simple GStreamer pipeline such as gst-launch pulsesrc ! pulsesink does the job, after enabling PGA line2 and PGA capturing in the mixer.

Martin have uploaded an application package fmradio for the FM radio to extras-testing. Testers are encouraged to test this, too.

One drawback with the FM radio is that due to constant capturing and replaying, the FM radio is kinda demanding on the battery. There's no safe way around that. The unsafe way around that can damage your speakers, so capturing/replaying is a must.

He's gonna put up some developer documentation for the FM radio stuff.

Get most of your Symbian device [Part 11-2] : Create Personalized TouchWiz Widgets For The Samsung Omnia HD i8910 !

Some days ago, we've seen together how to make a widget to launch your favorite applications on your desktop plug-in (touchwiz), and now, as promised, we will see together how to create a web bookmark like widget (some kind of shortcut to your favorite website etc)...

This time the internal composition of the wgt file will be almost the same but with a little addition like that :

- css folder that contains the css stylsheet witch holds all the CSS style rules.
- images folder that contains the application(s)/website(s) icon(s) (and possibly a few more pictures / icons / backgrounds / etc).
- js folder witch contains the widget's script (allows applications to start or whatever is needed in the widget).
- config.xml witch contains the name of the widget and its size (on the screen) etc.
- Index.html witch contains the UID of the application to launch for example.
- icon.png the icon in PNG format.

As usually, i'll try to be as brief as possible because it may sound a bit complicated, don't worry, it's exactly how we did the last time :

1- Download this widget's example : slipkornsaad.wgt and rename it to slipkornsaad.zip then unzip it !
2- Open config.xml (with the help of notepad) as shown below (click to enlarge)

Where widget id is the authentication name you'll give to the widget (put what you want...), height and width refer to the widget display size, also, you can change the widget title if you want, last but not least, access network must be changed to "true" to allow the application to connect to the network.

Once done, in the index file, click on "save" and not "save as", then, close it.

3- If you choose to modify the size of the widget you have to adapt the size of the icon.png (if you choose 70x70, your icon.png file must have the same size too)

4 - Open Index.html and you may do only one thing (click to enlarge) :

- Optionally you can change the title also, in my case "sb" (SymbianBriefs)
- But the most important task is to add the URL of the link you want to make the shortcut for, that's it !

Once done, in the index file, click on "save" and not "save as", then, close it. You are almost done !

5- On images folder put your icon file (the icon of the widget once in the touchwiz interface) and remember to keep the same size as on the index and config files...

6- Replace and overwrite the old file on the zip package (or create a new zip archive) and then rename the zip file to wgt and install it, you're done !

Ps : you can download nice high quality icons from here for example (you can search by name, thematic etc).

Tip : If you are so lazy to do all that work you can easily jump to the step 4, 5 and 6 ;)

Questions?

In the Upcoming tutorial (Part 11-3), we will see together how to create a different kind of widgets (launch your application from a web like interface or home page, something like that...) stay tuned !

Get most of your Symbian device [Part 12] : Disable The Keylock During a Call !

For all Omnia HD owners, you certainly know that during a call, when you have the keypad open and you put the phone to your face, the keypad will disappear when you take the phone away from your face because the phone goes into key lock mode.

This patch from djsaad (over forums.samsungi8910omnia.com) will disable the key lock when the proximity sensor turns on :)

So, when you put your phone in front of your ear, the screen will not turn dark and the keys won't lock but now the keypad will always stay open. You can always lock the screen manually by pressing the lock button.

You know what to do right?

Yes, that's right, all you've to do put prox.rmp in your e:\patches folder, then apply the patch on ROMPatcher+ and add it to auto if you want.

Get most of your Symbian device [Part 11-1] : Create Personalized TouchWiz Widgets For The Samsung Omnia HD i8910 !

Making a widget to launch your favorite applications or websites on your desktop plug-in (touchwiz) is no longer a dream !

Samsung's Widget is actually a disguised Zip file, the official suffix is Wgt, while its internal composition can be relatively simple :

- Images folder that contains the application(s)/website(s) icon(s) (and possibly a few more pictures / icons / backgrounds / etc).
- js folder witch contains the widget's script (allows applications to start or whatever is needed in the widget).
- config.xml witch contains the name of the widget and its size (on the screen) etc.
- Index.html witch contains the UID of the application to launch for example.
- icon.png the icon in PNG format.

In the this part (part 11-1) we will see together how to make a startup widget to launch your favorite applications, so let's start, i'll try to be as brief as possible because it may sound a bit complicated, don't worry :

1- Download this widget's example : uc.wgt and rename it to uc.zip then unzip it !
2- Open config.xml (with the help of notepad) as shown below (click to enlarge)

Where widget id is the authentication name you'll give to the widget (put what you want...), height and width refer to the widget display size, access network must be changed to "true" if you want the application to connect to the network.

Once done, in the index file, click on "save" and not "save as", then, close it.

3- If you choose to modify the size of the widget you have to adapt the size of the icon.png (if you choose 70x70, your icon.png file must have the same size too)

4 - Open Index.html and search for this line src="images/icon.png" width="65" height="65" onclick="launchApp('0x2001f848') and look for the application's UID you want to launch as shown below :

- To know the UID of an application, you have to Install AppUidList widget (install it on your phone)

Once done, in the index file, click on "save" and not "save as", then, close it. You are almost done !

5- On Images folder put your icon file (the icon of the widget once in the touchwiz interface) and remember to keep the same size as on the index and config files...

6- Replace and overwrite the old file on the zip package and then rename the zip file to wgt and install it, you're done !

Ps : you can download nice high quality icons from here for example (you can search by name, thematic etc).

Questions?

In the Upcoming tutorial (Part 11-2), we will see together how to create a web bookmark like widget (to visit your favorite website etc) stay tuned !

-- Cut it and paste it to E:\patches
-- Open Rompatcher and apply the patch and add it to auto (so it'll be applied every time you boot your device).

Ps : If c2z Maker crashes your phone, you can follow this way to create c2z patch ;)

3- Download for example trapezium effects the one i use (like showed on the video below) and then :

-- Copy effects folder to your memory card and then to c:\resource\

Get most of your Symbian device [Part 8] : Change Cache Directory From C to F / E

Always trying to free up some space on the C drive and keep reading about clearing the cache and deleting it from the C drive?  Here's the solution !

Your phone must be hacked and open4all patch applied and of course a strong file manager to copy/edit files and change attributes.

Let's start then :

1- Delete everything from C:\system\cache except for the vss folder

2- Copy cache folder : C:\system\cache (including the vss folder) to E:\system so you'll get  E:\system\cache

3- Set the attributes of the cache and vss folders in E to "hidden" and "system"

4- Copy Z:\private\10202be9\101f8557.txt to your memory card, and then to your computer.

5- Open 101f8557.txt on your computer and rename every instance of c:\\system\\cache to e:\\system\\cache. (generally : 0x3, 0x4 and 0x8 strings)

6- Put the modified 101f8557.txt to C:\private\10202be9 and change its attribute to "read only"

7- Restart your phone.

When browser connects to a specific page, it sends in its header its user agent (the browser/mobile ID) which can be used to the page to display better results, access to some specific features etc.

Let me give you an example : If you want all websites that you view from your Omnia HD (i8910) to be identified as being a Nokia N97, for example to access Nokia Ovi Store !

So if you want to switch the user agent of your symbian browser, you have to :

- Install the python pack
- Install UserAgent Manager

And then : Enjoy !

Ps : PythonScriptShell_1.9.7_high_capas and PythonScriptShell_1.9.7_unsigned_devcert are unneeded for this tuto, but you can install them oh, your phone must be hacked ;)

Select the user agent string you want to use and exit, start browsing and your browser will be identified as firefox, Internet Explorer etc according to the User Agent string you have chosen.
