Sony Ericsson Satio sales suspended after bugs discovered

Adding insult to Sony Ericsson's injurious bottom line, Carphone Warehouse and Phones 4U shops (the UK's largest mobile phone retailers) have halted sales of the SE's Symbian-powered Satio handset after a high number of customer returns and complaints.

A "software glitch" reportedly causes Sony Ericsson's flagship device to power down when users try to access certain applications -- unfortunately, the issue can't be patched via an over-the-air update. A little digging into CPW discussion forums reveals multiple complaints of freezes, crashes, under-performing batteries, and bizarre interface behavior. Both the Carphone Warehouse and Phones4U will offer "new phones" to customers fed up with their Satio. Richard Dorman, senior marketing manager at Sony Ericsson, concedes the issue and assures us that it should be sorted by Christmas.

Until then, you can still purchase the handset directly from Vodafone, Orange and T-Mobile... but really, why would you? The Satio's not the only dubiously-speced 12 megapixel cameraphone on the market.

Sony Ericsson Satio hits the shelves !

The long sought after Sony Ericsson Satio has just been released and it's attacking the retailers worldwide. So if you spent the last couple of months dreaming of buying the beast, now might be a good time to break that piggy bank of yours. After all early adopters and rip-off prices are pretty much synonyms as far as mobile phone manufacturers are concerned.

The Sony Ericsson's flagman Satio, previously known as Idou, became the dream gadget of many people since its announcement back in February during the MWC 2009. The Satio managed to impress with 3.5-inches touchscreen, 12 megapixel camera with xenon and LED flashes, all connectivity options you may think of and the latest Symbian S60 5th edition OS.

Its hardware resembles that on its rivals - a 600Mhz AMR Cortex CPU with PowerVR SGX graphics - the same stuff used to power up Apple iPhone 3GS, Nokia N900 and Samsung i8910 Omnia HD.

Sony Ericsson Satio is out there just today and can be yours for just over 550 euro. The price is a bit high, but the phone is still hot. We'll be doing our best to acquire one for an in-depth review as soon as possible, but until that happens you might want to check GSMAren's preview article.

Sony Ericsson Satio (aka Idou) Hits FCC !

The Sony Ericsson's Idou platform is really spec'ed out, running on Symbian S60 smartphone OS and bearing a 12-megapixel camera. The actual hardware behind the Idou platform is called Satio, with a CDMA version called the Kokura, and the Satio has graced the FCC with its presence to obtain regulatory approval.
